The Android platform is based on the Linux operating system, and features numerous apps developed by Google and by third-party developers. Phones running the Android operating system are the primary competitor to Apple's iPhone, and are the best selling smartphones worldwide. DEFINITION IOS iOS is a mobile  operating system  developed by Apple. It was originally named the iPhone OS, but was renamed to the iOS in June, 2009.
